Host Boarding Programme

Host Boarding Programme at Palma College

From September 2026, Palma College will introduce a Host Boarding Programme for international students aged 16–18 who wish to study A Levels or BTECs in Mallorca. This option enables students to live in a safe and supportive family environment while benefiting from the high academic standards and personalised education offered at the College.

What Does Host Boarding Involve?

Host boarding offers students a place within a carefully selected local family rather than in a traditional boarding house. Each host family provides:

  • A private, fully furnished bedroom for the student.
  • Daily meals.
  • A safe, structured environment with appropriate house rules.
  • Guidance with daily routines and encouragement towards independence.

This arrangement allows students to enjoy the security of family life while developing life skills and adapting to a new culture.

Selection and Safeguarding of Host Families

The wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. All host families undergo a thorough selection and vetting process which includes:

  • Home visits and interviews conducted by our Host Family Boarding Coordinator.
  • Background checks on all household members.
  • Safeguarding and orientation training before a student is placed.

Ongoing monitoring continues throughout the placement. Our Coordinator conducts regular visits and remains in contact with both students and families to ensure the arrangement is working smoothly.

Academic and Pastoral Support

Palma College is the only independent Sixth Form in Mallorca, offering a wide choice of A Level and BTEC qualifications taught by specialist teachers. Alongside their academic studies, students benefit from:

  • Small class sizes for focused attention.
  • Personal tutor support, ensuring academic progress and wellbeing are monitored closely.
  • Access to enrichment activities that build skills for university and beyond.

Our pastoral team works hand-in-hand with host families to provide a complete support system for each student. A 24-hour emergency contact service is available should any urgent issues arise.

Advantages of the Programme

For parents considering an international education for their child, the Host Boarding Programme offers several advantages:

  • A secure and welcoming home environment rather than institutional boarding.
  • Integration into local family and community life.
  • Daily opportunities to practise Spanish and gain cultural awareness.
  • Independence and responsibility, balanced with appropriate guidance.
  • Comprehensive safeguarding and pastoral support from the College.

Communication with Parents

We understand the importance of regular contact between students, parents, and the College. Our Host Family Boarding Coordinator provides updates and remains available to answer questions throughout the year. Parents can feel confident that their child is well cared for both academically and personally.

Next Steps

If you are considering Palma College for your child, the Admissions Team will work closely with the Host Family Boarding Coordinator to identify the most suitable host family. Placements are confirmed well in advance of the academic year, with opportunities to meet or speak with the host family before arrival.
