“If I were again beginning my studies, I would follow the advice of Plato and start with Mathematics.” Galileo Galilei
Mathematics is an essential tool and language for commerce, engineering and other sciences. It helps us recognise patterns and understand the world around us. Mathematics plays a vital, often unseen, role in many aspects of modern life, for example:
- Space travel
- Safeguarding credit card details on the internet
- Modelling the spread of epidemics
- Predicting stock market prices
- Business decision making
The Edexcel International A level in Mathematics covers a total of six units. The four pure units are related to basic principles of Mathematics such as: algebra, trigonometry and functions. Mechanics 1 and Statistics 1 cover the application of the mathematics principles in the two optional units that we offer.
Degrees in Mathematics offer a pathway to many different careers and an A Level qualification is highly regarded by many universities and colleges around the world.
A good standard of Maths (IGCSE grade A or B) is required by those wishing to choose this subject at AS Level.
